Caran d'Ache Neopastels are cylindrical oil pastels. They possess a soft and velevety texture that glides on to surfaces. They are not watersoluble.
Colours can be thinned out using solvents such as Zest It or Turpentine, making them really versatile and easy to use over regular oil paint. You can apply neopastels in a number of ways: dip a brush into solvent, apply neopastel to the brush and paint with the colour in thin stains and washes, or draw it on dry to create colour-saturated marks.
The sticks are flat ended so you can apply broad marks and thin marks, using the edge of the end of the stick. Unlike regular pastel they will not crumble or powder. The 96 colours in the range which are all classified as having excellent lightfastness.
